Vitamin D is incredibly beneficial for our health, and studies are increasingly showing that most people are vitamin D deficient. Healthy levels of vitamin D should be around 20-56 ng/ml, and those people that are below 20 ng/ml are considered vitamin D deficient. The easiest way to find out what your vitamin D levels are is to have a blood test.
If your vitamin D levels are low, there are several ways to bring them up. Dietary supplements are a great option, as is spending more time outside. Depending on how dark your skin is, the amount of time spent in the sun will vary. Furthermore, going out at the right time of day will also help you get the most vitamin D. Typically speaking, the best time to get vitamin D is when your shadow is smaller than you are outside.
Alternatively, many people are using the tanning salon to make up low levels of vitamin D. The bulbs in the tanning bed work in a similar way as the sun to help our skin generate the necessary vitamin D. We’ve worked with many salons to provide them with modular tanning walls to really make their salon look great. These walls are available in many different colors and styles and come with the flexibility to be moved or reconfigured.
Dr. Oz recently did a great interview with Diane Sawyer outlining the many positive healthy benefits of vitamin D, and you can view a clip of the interview below.
